1. Information Collected
Depending on how you use Existence, we may collect the following categories of
personal information:
- Account and identity information, such as your name, email address, and sign-in details provided through Google Sign-In.
- Profile information, such as your display name, age-related eligibility data, interests, languages, hangout text, profile image, and profile video.
- Location information, including approximate or precise device location that you choose to provide so we can show nearby hangouts and profiles.
- Device and app information, such as Firebase and Apple VoIP device tokens, app capabilities, and basic technical information needed to operate the app.
- Dialogue content and metadata, including text, photos, voice messages, GIF references, delivery and read state, reports, and one-to-one call summaries.
- Live Introduction metadata, such as participant identifiers, queue and connection timing, call duration, end reason, safety reports, and whether a follow-up request was sent. We do not record or store call audio or video.
- Advertising and consent information processed through Google AdMob and its User Messaging Platform, including whether ads may be requested and advertising measurement information where permitted.
- Support communications and information you send to us when you contact support@types.social.
Dialogue messages are stored in our database and private media storage for reliable
delivery and cross-device continuity. Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple VoIP pushes
notify devices that new server-backed content or a call invitation is available; a
push notification is not the authoritative copy of a message.
2. Sources of Information
We collect personal information directly from you, from your device, and from the
service providers you use to access Existence, such as Google Sign-In. We also receive
technical and delivery-related information from our infrastructure and messaging
providers.
3. How We Use Information
- To create, authenticate, and maintain accounts.
- To build profiles, show nearby hangouts, and support discovery features.
- To upload and display profile media and private dialogue photos or voice messages you choose to share.
- To persist, synchronize, deliver, and display recent dialogue messages, delivery/read state, and notifications.
- To establish encrypted Live Introductions and one-to-one dialogue calls, show recent call history, and support follow-up requests.
- To display and measure advertising in the Live Introductions waiting room, subject to applicable consent choices.
- To provide customer support, troubleshoot issues, and keep the service secure.
- To detect fraud, spam, harassment, unsafe conduct, and other misuse.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, we process personal information on one or
more of the following legal bases: performance of a contract with you, our legitimate
interests in operating and securing Existence, your consent where required, and
compliance with legal obligations.
5. Sharing and Service Providers
We may disclose personal information to service providers that help us operate
Existence, including:
- Google, for sign-in and Android push notifications, and Giphy's CDN for GIF media you choose to send.
- Neon, for database infrastructure.
- Vercel for hosting and API delivery, Cloudflare R2 for profile and private dialogue media storage, and Cloudflare Realtime/TURN for realtime wake-ups, call signaling, and relay fallback.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service, for message notifications and incoming-call invitations.
- Google AdMob and its User Messaging Platform, for consent management, advertising delivery, and measurement.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, in
connection with a business transfer, or with your direction. AdMob may provide
personalized advertising only where applicable law and your consent permit it;
otherwise Existence requests non-personalized or limited ads. We do not send your
Live Introduction age or gender visibility settings to AdMob for ad targeting.
6. International Transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they
operate. When applicable, we rely on contractual commitments and other available legal
mechanisms intended to protect personal information transferred internationally.
7. Retention and Deletion
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes
described in this Policy, including to provide the service, comply with law, resolve
disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you request account deletion, we aim to
delete or de-identify applicable account data within 30 days unless we need to retain
certain information for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or backup purposes.
Ordinary dialogue messages and attached media expire 14 days after they are sent.
Devices remove expired content during synchronization, and associated private media
is queued for deletion. Content attached to a safety report may be restricted from
both participants and preserved for up to 30 days from the report so authorized
reviewers can investigate it. Report records may be retained longer where needed for
safety, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
Connected Live Introduction history is retained for up to 90 days so participants can
recognize a recent conversation and send a follow-up request. Shorter-lived queue,
failed-connection, and signaling records are removed when no longer operationally
necessary. WebRTC offer, answer, and network-candidate payloads are not retained as
call history.
Dialogue call summaries disappear from the visible dialogue after 14 days, while
limited operational call metadata may be retained for up to 90 days. Existence does
not record or retain dialogue-call audio, video, SDP, or ICE candidates.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of,
deletion of, or portability of your personal information, and to object to or restrict
certain processing. California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, and
users in the EU and UK may have rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR, including the right
to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.
To exercise privacy rights, contact support@types.social. We may need to verify your
identity before completing your request. We generally aim to respond within the time
required by applicable law, including within one month for requests subject to the
GDPR or UK GDPR.
9. Children
Existence is intended only for adults 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly
permit anyone under 18 to use the service.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to
protect personal information, including authenticated APIs and private, short-lived
access URLs for dialogue media. Dialogue content is not end-to-end encrypted and may
be accessed by authorized personnel when needed to investigate a report or operate
the service. One-to-one dialogue calls try a direct WebRTC connection before using
relay fallback, so the other participant may be able to learn your network address.
Random Live Introductions remain relay-only. No system is completely secure, and we
cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we
may notify you by updating the policy in the app or on the website and revising the
“Last updated” date above.
